FinELib partners with the Open Library of Humanities

FinELib and the not-for-profit Open Library of Humanities have signed a three-year (2022–2024) agreement that provides support for OLH through its Library Partnership Subsidy Model.

The partnership with OLH is FinELib’s first with a scholar-led diamond OA publisher.

Journals that have joined OLH include Glossa: a journal of general linquistics, Ethnologia Europaea, Architectural Histories as well as OLH's flagship journal, the multidisciplinary Open Library of Humanities Journal.

  • University of Helsinki
  • University of Jyväskylä

Based in Birkbeck, University of London, Open Library of Humanities (OLH) is an award-winning, academic-led, diamond open access publisher of 28 journals from across the humanities disciplines.

Its costs are covered by payments from participating libraries, with charges neither to readers nor authors.

SCOAP3

Avoin julkaiseminen SCOAP3-lehdissä

Korkeaenergiafysiikan alaan kuuluvat artikkelit voidaan julkaista avoimina CC BY -lisenssillä ja ilman kirjoittajamaksua SCOAP3-lehdissä.

Avoimen julkaisemisen kustannukset kattaa CERN:in alaisuudessa toimiva SCOAP3-konsortio, johon kuuluu kirjastoja, kirjastokonsortioita (ml. FinELib), tutkimuslaitoksia ja rahoittajia yli 40 maasta.

Open Access Publishing in SCOAP3 Journals

Under the SCOAP3 model, authors of high-energy physics articles worldwide can publish OA in SCOAP3 journals at no cost to themselves.

SCOAP3 is a partnership of over 3000 libraries, library consortia (including FinELib), funding agencies, and research institutions from over 40 countries. Managed by CERN, SCOAP3 funds Open Access (OA) publishing in High-Energy Physics (HEP) research and has converted key HEP journals to OA, in addition to supporting fully OA journals in HEP.

What do I need to do?

Just submit your article to one of the SCOAP3 journals. There will be no Article Processing Charge (APC) and you will retain the copyright of your work.

Nature Research

Open Access Publishing in Nature Research titles

FinELib consortium’s agreement with Springer Nature includes open access publishing in Nature Research hybrid titles during the agreement term 1.1.2025–31.12.2026 (note that the agreement term may vary depending on the organisation).

The corresponding author does not need to pay an APC (article processing charge). The charges are covered by the agreement.

We have a limited number of open access articles for the agreement term.

Who is eligible to publish articles Open Access?

Corresponding authors affiliated to Nature Research subscribing institutions are eligible to publish open access under the agreement. Your institution verifies your affiliation during the publishing process.

Instructions to the Corresponding Author

  • Once your article has been accepted, you will receive a link to the My Publication system.

  • Choose your affiliation: state the name of the subscribing institution you are affiliated to in the entry field. If you don’t find your institution, type in the city or country and the system will prompt institution names.

  • You will see the Green Box describing the FinELib agreement (an example using Aalto University):

  • Agree to the open access license used by the journal title (CC BY)

Creative Commons describes the license like this:
This license lets others copy, distribute, display and perform the work and make derivative works and remixes based on it only if they give the author or licensor the credits (attribution) in the manner specified by these.

  • Order color figures, offprints or posters if you like. Note that you will personally be charged for them, your institution only covers the article processing charge (APC).

  • Fill in your contact information in the Your Affiliation form.

  • Send the order. Your price is 0 EUR unless you have ordered color figures, offprints or posters.

  • Springer Nature will alert your institution and your library/information service will verify your affiliation in the  system.

  • Springer Nature will publish your article open access.

It's assumed that all corresponding authors will want to publish open access.

If this is not the case with you, contact your library or information service before you complete the My Publication -process.

They will reject verifying your affiliation in the system. You will then receive a new link to My Publication and your article will be published behind a paywall.

ACM

Open Access Publishing in ACM's Journals

FinELib’s agreement with ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) allows authors from participating institutions to publish Open Access in ACM’s titles (journals, magazines, conference proceedings) at no additional charge.

The costs of OA publishing are covered by the agreement and paid for from library budgets.

Avoin julkaiseminen ACM:n lehdissä

FinELibin ja ACM:n (Association for Computing Machinery) neuvottelema Read & Publish -sopimus mahdollistaa maksuttoman avoimen julkaisemisen ACM:n lehdissä ja konferenssijulkaisuissa.

Tutkijan ei tarvitse maksaa kirjoittajamaksua (Open Access Charge, Article Processing Charge), sillä avoimen julkaisemisen kustannukset on sisällytetty sopimukseen.

FinELib ja Fronties solmivat uuden sopimuksen

Sopimukseen osallistuvat organisaatiot saavat 10 % alennuksen Frontiersin kirjoittajamaksuista, mahdollisuuden valita eri maksuvaihtoehdoista sekä muita etuja.

FinELib ja Frontiers ovat julkistaneet kolmivuotisen (2002-2024) avoimen julkaisemisen sopimuksen. Sopimusta on pohjustettu FinELibin Full OA -projektissa ja se on ensimmäisen FinELibin ja täysin avoimen (fully OA) lehtikustantajan välillä solmittu sopimus.

Alennuksen saavat kaikki tilaajaorganisaatioihin affilioituneet vastuukirjoittajat, joskin kirjastot valitsevat omien kriteeriensä mukaisesti ne artikkelit, joiden kirjoittajamaksut voidaan maksaa. Muita sopimusetuuksia ovat mm. Frontiersin kirjoittajamaksujen maksimihintojen "jäädyttäminen" sekä julkaisukustannusten seurantaa helpottava raportointi.

FinELib strikes open access deal with Frontiers

The agreement allows participating institutions to benefit from a 10% national discount, streamlined submission and payment workflows, and other benefits.

FinELib and Frontiers have announced a new three-year (2022-2024) open access agreement. The agreement is the FinELib's first with a fully open access publisher and allows participating institutions to choose from three invoicing schemes (invoiced individually, monthly, or prepayment).

While making it easier for authors to publish their work open access, the agreement also allows institutions to remain in full control as each APC will be verified before being paid. Further benefits include frozen maximum APCs for the duration of the agreement and improved transparency of OA expenditure through detailed reports.

Tukea OA-infrastruktuureille - FinELib ja arXiv solmivat uuden sopimuksen

FinELib ja arXiv ovat solmineet kolmivuotisen (20222024) sopimuksen, jonka myötä kuusi uutta suomalaista yliopistoa sitoutuu rahoittamaan arXivia.

Preprint-arkistona ja julkaisualustana toimiva arXiv on yksi SCOSS:in (The Global Sustainability Coalition for Open Science Services) kolmannelle rahoituskierrokselle valituista OA-infrastruktuureista.

Cornellin yliopiston ylläpitämästä, 1991 perustetusta palvelusta löytyy nykyisellään jo yli kaksi miljoonaa tieteellistä artikkelia. Vuosien saatossa arXivista on muodostunut liki korvaamaton resurssi etenkin matematiikkaa ja sen lähitieteitä edustaville tutkijoile.

FinELib pledges to support arXiv

FinELib and arXiv have signed a three-year (20222024) agreement through which six new Finnish universities have committed to funding arXiv, currently promoted by SCOSS (The Global Sustainability Coalition for Open Science Services) in its third funding cycle.

arXiv is a curated open platform and open access archive that currently hosts over 2 million scholarly articles.

Maintained by Cornell Tech and founded three decades ago, arXiv covers eight major subject areas including physics, mathematics, computer science, quantitative biology, quantitative finance, statistics, electrical engineering and systems science, and economics.

The agreement is a testimony to the importance of arXiv to the Finnish and global scientific community.
