Open Access Publishing in OUP's Journals

FinELib’s agreement with OUP allows authors from participating institutions to publish Open Access in OUP’s hybrid journals at no additional charge. The costs of OA publishing are covered by the agreement and paid for from Library budgets.

Am I eligible?

You are eligible if you meet the criteria below:

  • You are affiliated with one of the participating Finnish institutions

  • Your article has been received into production in one of OUP’s hybrid titles during 1.1.2021–31.12.2023 (agreement period may vary from organization to organization): list of eligible titles (xls)

  • You are the corresponding author of the article.

  • Your article has been peer-reviewed.

Need support? Not sure of your eligibility? Email your local library.

I am eligible, what do I need to do?

Step 1

  • Once your paper has been accepted for publication, you will receive an email containing a link to OUP’s online licencing and payment system.

  • If you have used your institutional email address (we recommend this), you will also receive a second email telling that you may be eligible to publish OA using funding from your institution.

Step 2

  • Log in and choose your OA licence. The Finnish national policy on open access strongly recommends the selection of the CC BY licence, while several funders mandate it.

  • Please note that at this stage you will be asked to confirm that you will pay the Open Access charge. However, provided that your eligibility is confirmed by your institution, you will not need to pay the charge. (If in doubt, please contact your institution).

  • Tick both boxes and click I accept this copyright agreement.

Step 3

  • Proceed to payment and select Finnish Institutions (FinELib affiliated) from the dropdown box beneath Open Access Prepayment Account on the Article Charges page.

  • Check the Refer Charge? box next to the Open Access charge, and then click Refer Charges at the bottom of the page.

  • Provide the requested information and complete the request.

  • You will receive a notification that your request has been forwarded to your institution for approval.

Step 4

  • Once FinElib or your institution has verified your eligibility, you will receive a confirmation.

  • Your article will be made freely available online.

Please note that if your request is not approved (i.e. if you are not eligible) you will need to arrange payment of the APC via another method.
